Sreedhanya becomes first tribal woman from Kerala to crack Civil Services Examination

Thiruvananthapuram, April 7: A 22-year-old girl named Sreedhanya Suresh, who secured 410th rank in the Civil Services Examination 2018, became the first tribal woman from Kerala to clear the prestigious all India-level exam.

Sreedhanya, who hails from Wayanad district, is among 29 Keralites who have cleared the UPSC exam. Other Keralites who cracked and secured top ranks in the exam include R Sreelekshmi,  Ranjana Mary Varghese and Arjun Mohan. They bagged 29th, 49th and 66th ranks, respectively.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated Sreedhanya following her achievement. In a Facebook post, the CM said the girl fought all social adversities and passed the civil services exam with flying colours, an achievement which will inspire other students in the future. He also spoke to her over the phone. The CM also congratulated other students from Kerala who cracked the exam.

Speaking to media after the announcement of the results, Sreedhanya said she hails from the most backward district in Kerala. Though the district has a large population of tribal, there is no IAS officer from the place. Her feat, Sreedhanya hope, will inspire and motivate future generations to overcome all challenges.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala, also congratulated Sreedhanya.

“Sreedhanya’s hard work & dedication have helped make her dream come true. I congratulate Sreedhanya and her family and wish her great success in her chosen career,” he tweeted.

BA Chagatta with 364th rank is the first person from remote Mahore in JK’s Reasi district to crack CSE

Meanwhile, up in the northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir, Babar Ali Chagatta, who bagged the 364th rank, became the first person from the remote Mahore tehsil in Reasi district to crack the civil services examination.

 Chagatta, who is among seven JK candidates to get qualified in the prestigious examination, feels his achievement will inspire more youths from the state in the coming years. He did his schooling from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Udhampur and graduation from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Others from JK who cracked the CSE include Rehana Bashir (187th rank), an MBBS graduate from Salwah village in Poonch district,  Abhishek Augustya (268), Sunny Gupta (320), Harvinder Singh (335), Gokul Mahajan (564) and Devahuti (668). All of them are from Jammu district.
