New Delhi, April 29: Emerging as the first central university in New Delhi to have its presence on social media, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will soon make its first appearance on Instagram and Linkedin. The media coordinator of JMI, Ahmed Azeem, shares that the initiative is taken to connect with more youngsters, who are active on the digital platform. The University already has a verified Facebook page with a total of 36,718 followers. It is thinking about making its debut on Twitter as well.
JMI VC to unveil Instagram and Linkedin pages
Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar will formally launch the Instagram and Linkedin pages. Azeem said that for industry interaction and for putting details of research papers published by the students of the Varsity, Linkedin will be the perfect platform. He further informed that for putting out aesthetic pictures of the institution along with the events happening at the campus, Instagram will be used.
“Fifty events take place inside the varsity at a given point of time. The social media presence will help widen the reach of the university,” the JMI media coordinator has been quoted as saying to a national daily. The varsity will be available on Instagram as jamiamilliaislamia_official.
Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the other two major universities in the national capital, do not have a digital presence. However, JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar is quite active on Twitter.
JMI was ranked 12th in NIRF
In the ‘Universities’ category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in the country, JMI was ranked at the twelfth position by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD). Jawaharlal Nehru University got the second rank, whereas Delhi University was at the thirteenth rank.
JMI will be completing 100 years in 2020. It has recently got its first woman vice chancellor in Professor Najma Akhtar.
