New Delhi January 06: With the focus on the overall progress of the central universities (CU) across the countries, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has decided that it will hold a monthly review of the CUs and will deal with anomalies strictly.
Personal meet with CU Vice Chancellors
Apart from the monthly review, the HRD Minister will also meet the Vice Chancellors of all CUs every month and seek report from them, and accordingly the accountability will be fixed for irregularities of any nature.
“The Minister himself will conduct a monthly review of the functioning of all central universities. He will also meet the Vice Chancellors for the review. Accountability will be fixed for irregularities of any nature and strict action will be taken,” the MHRD said in a statement.
Addressing student grievances
Apart from reviewing the academic progress, the MHRD will also check whether the functioning of the university was normal and student grievances were addressed well.
The development from the MHRD comes after allegations surfaced against Allahabad University Vice Chancellor Ratan Lal Hangloo for not handling of sexual harassment complaints well. The university also faced criticism for lack of grievance redressal mechanism for female students.
Allahabad University under scanner
Apart from this, the university VC was under scanner over other alleged financial and administrative irregularities. As per updates, he had resigned earlier this week. However, his resignation has been accepted by President Ram Nath Kovind. The decision was taken after an enquiry was ordered to look into the allegations of financial and administrative irregularities against him. The resignation was accepted after the MHRC sent his resignation to Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The VC of the Allahabad University was under the scanner since 2016 over irregularities. Apart from this, he was also summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) recently for the same reason.
