JEE Main 2019: NTA launches mobile app for mock tests; also establishes 4,000 practice centres

New Delhi, Feb 5: For aiding JEE Main 2019 aspirants to practise or attempt tests on their computers or smartphones, a mock test mobile app has been launched by National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam conducting body. The agency has also established a network of over 4,000 Test Practice Centres (TPCs) to familiarise the students in order to make sure that no one is disadvantaged due to lack of resources. This includes especially those students in getting a grasp of the Computer-Based Tests (CBTs), who live in rural areas, the Minister of State (HRD), Dr. Satya Pal Singh informed in a written reply to a Lok Sabha question.

Free service for students

To visit the TPCs, students across India can register themselves online at NTA Students App or NTA website. This offered service will be free of cost for students.

The official figures reveal that till now, over lakh students have registered at the practice centres and over one crore students have availed benefit from the app and web services.

JEE Main is being conducted in CBT mode only from 2019 onwards. JEE Main 2019 first attempt for Paper 1 and Paper 2 was held from January 8 to 12. The second attempt is scheduled to be held from April 6 to 20 in different slots. The application form for the April session will be available from February 8 onwards. Interested and eligible students can apply till March 7. Those who appeared for the first attempt can also apply for the second attempt.

Numbers more than expected

More than 9.65 lakh aspirants registered for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-1 even as the January session dates clashed with the Class 12 board practical exams. However, the January cycle 2019 witnessed 2.5 lakh fewer applications than that for JEE of April 2018 cycle. But these aspirants can again apply to appear for the entrance exam in April 2019.

The HRD ministry said that the increased number of applications has amplified their plan of conducting JEE Main multiple times in the computer-based mode. “The numbers are much higher than anticipated. NTA was expecting around 6 lakh registrations for JEE-Main 1,” a senior official has been quoted as saying to a national daily.
