New Delhi, June 17: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a Certificate Programme in Yoga (CPY) ahead of the International Yoga Day. The course is scheduled to commence from July 2019 session. The language of the course will be English. Those, who have attained education up to Class 12, irrespective of the stream, are eligible to apply.
The programme will of six months’ duration, and a maximum of two years will be given to the students for clearing the course. A total of Rs. ten thousand have to be paid by the candidates for the entire programme.
Programme to be offered through 9 regional centres
Following nine regional centres will be offering the Yoga programme:
- Delhi
- Haridwar
- Bengaluru
- Bhubaneswar
- Jaipur
- Ladnun
- Chennai
- Mumbai
- Pune
The programme will have three courses with sixteen credits.
Students will be able to understand the basic principles and practice of yoga after studying this specific programme, S.B. Arora, professor, IGNOU, said. He further shared that with this course, the students will know about the history and the role of various Yogis in the field of Yoga. Also, they will be able to attain both physical and mental health through Yoga.
“Yoga is essentially a practice based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind, body and spirit. It is a very powerful means to achieve physical, mental and emotional well being. Yoga paves the way to discover the self, the external world and nature. It is an art and science for healthy living. Yoga has several benefits including education, health and stress management,” IGNOU stated in an official release.
About Indira Gandhi National Open University
IGNOU was established by an Act of Parliament in 1985. It focuses on increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by offering high-quality teaching through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. It started offering two academic programmes in 1987- Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education. The strength of students was 4,528 at that time.
