IGNOU announces admission to MPhil, PhD programmes; application closes on March 25

New Delhi Mar 11: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, has announced online applications for MPhil and PhD for the July session. Candidates interested in pursuing research programmes at IGNOU can apply for the same in the official website of IGNOU. The application process started on March 7. Candidates can apply for the required programmes by March 25, 2019.

Before applying for the programmes, candidates should first download the information brochure. The information brochure includes all the guidelines and codes for filling up the application form. It also includes the list of programmes that candidates can pursue their research in. The programmes are:

Journalism and mass communication, Chemistry, translation studies and PhD programmes in bio-chemistry, Commerce, English, gender and development studies, education, environmental science, geology, women’s studies, management, fine arts, Hindi, music, social work, rural development, translation studies, statistics.

Here are the steps to apply:

  1. Log into the official website of IGNOU: https://onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in
  2. Click on Register Yourself
  3. Check on the declaration form and click on I Agree and Proceed
  4. Enter name, father’s name, Date of Birth, Gender, email, username, and password
  5. Enter the security code and click on submit
  6. Once the registration process is complete, candidates can apply for the research programme.

The password should be alphanumeric and should be between 8 and 16 characters. The username will be send to the candidate on their registered email ID and password. Candidates also have to enter their scanned signature and scanned picture. The passport sized picture should not be more than 100 kb and the scanned signature should not be more than 50 kb.

About the MPhil and PhD programmes:

Admission to the MPhil and PhD programme is would be based on merit and candidates would be required to appear for an entrance test. The entrance test would be followed by an interview round. The weight for the entrance test is 70 per cent, while the weight for the interview round is 30 per cent.

The MPhil programme has to be pursued full-time and the PhD programme is offered both full-time and part-time. However, if coursework is allotted to students, they would have to attend classes. The MPhil programme can be 1 or 2 years. PhD candidates are given 3 to 6 years to complete their research work. Women candidates and differently-abled (candidates who are 40 per cent) are given one extra year above the maximum duration.
