Ahmedabad, September 01: France has said that it is taking several steps to give a fillip to the student exchange programme with India and is targeting to raise the number of Indian students in the country to 20,000 by 2025.
In an interview to a new agency, Consul General of France in Mumbai Sonia Barbry said France and India share a strong strategic bilateral partnership. France is now focusing on ways to increase the economic and people-to-people relationship between the two countries.
France, she said, now want that more and more Indian students come to the country France for study.
The number of Indian students in France rose to 10,000 in 2019
The target is to increase the number of Indian students studying in France to 20,000 by 2025, said the French Consul General who studied in India as a teenager.
Till 2014, there were only 3,000 students of Indian origin studying in France. This year the number rose to 10,000.
France offers scholarships for international students
Education is comparatively cheaper in France than other developed countries due to government subsidy. Though the tuition fee depends on the course or programme taken, it is comparatively lower. Besides, the French government provides scholarships to international students.
For example, it costs approximately only 450 euros (Rs 35,545) per year to study medicine in France, whereas an engineering course will cost approximately around 620 euros (Rs 51343) per annum.
There are many Indian students who are studying in France on scholarships offered by the French government. There are many universities which offer scholarships worth up to 10,000 euros (Rs 7.8 lakhs) to international students, including those from India. These scholarships are mostly for post graduation and PhD courses.
International student can apply for scholarship offered by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme.
Prestigious universities in France
France has some of the best universities in Europe as well as in the world. Universities like the Ecole Normale Superieure, the Ecole Polytechnique, the Pierre and Marie Curie University and the University of Paris-Sud regularly bag higher positions in international university rankings every year.
