42 foreign students opt out of Lucknow University due to delay in admission

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 27, 2018: As many as 42 foreign students seeking admission to the University of Lucknow had to opt for other universities owing to a delay in the admission procedure for more than three months.

According to university officials, the out of 52 students who had applied, as many as 42 students have taken admissi elsewhere.

42 out of 52 foreign students opt out 

The university received as many as 52 applications from overseas students. “The admission forms were submitted in May. On August 28, the approval on all the 52 applications was received from the vice-chancellor. But when students were called, it was found that due to delay, 42 out of 52 foreign students had taken admission in other institutes,” an LU official told a news daily.

The admission rules of the university state that the foreign students should be given admissions by July along with the undergraduate students of India.

Application forms kept lying with admission team for 3 months

First, the registrar approves the application forms, and after that, the final decision is taken by VC. The glitch occurred when the registrar office sent the forms to the admission team by mistake where it kept lying for three months. The applications didn’t reach the VC office on time due to which the admission procedure was delayed.

Admission office passes the buck 

The international student department of the university said that they didn’t get any information from the VC office regarding the admissions. “Since the student simply cannot be admitted without VC’s assent, we had to wait for the approval from his office. No message was communicated from the administrative office,” LU International Student Advisor Prof Arif Ayyubi told a national daily.

On the other hand, the admission group refused to receive any foreign application forms. The Admission In-Charge Anil Mishra said, “The admission of foreign students is directly dealt with embassy and LU’s international student centre. The admission team doesn’t have any role.”

However, LU vice-chancellor SP Singh has assured that a mistake like this will not occur again. He said, “The forms were approved by me as and when they were received. We will find out who delayed the process. This won’t be repeated time.”
