XAT Cutoff: XLRI Jamshedpur will declare the XAT cut off in the fourth week of January 2019, after the declaration of the result. The XAT cutoff released by XLRI Jamshedpur will only be specific to XLRI. Other XAT accepting business schools along with the 11 XLRI institutes will release their individual cutoff of XAT 2019. Along with the overall cutoff, the business schools will also release the XAT sectional cutoff 2019. The XAT cutoff is based on several factors including number of test takers, exam difficulty level, seats available. The cutoff is the minimum marks that test takers have to score to be selected for further rounds of the selection process like group discussion, written ability test and personal interview.

XAT 2019 is scheduled to be conducted on January 6. The results for the exam is expected to be out in the last week of January. Over one lakh students appear for the exam, which is annually conducted by XLRI. The test evaluates candidates ability in Decision Making, Verbal and Logical Ability, Data interpretation and Quantitative Ability.  This article discusses the XAT cut off in detail and the factors which determine the cut off as well. What is XAT cut off?

One of the first things that a candidate should know is what exactly is XAT cutoff. The cut off of XAT is the minimum percentile that candidates have to score to be selected for the further rounds of selection at a XAT accepting business school. It should be kept in mind that the cut off is determined through the percentile score. Candidates scoring beneath the cutoff determined by the particular business schools are not called for the next rounds.

XAT cutoff 2018: Highlights

Before proceeding with minimum cut off details of XAT, it is essential to understand certain points about cutoff. Here are few highlights  of XAT cut off :

  1. The XAT cutoff is declared separately by XLRI Jamshedpur, other XLRI institutes and business schools accepting XAT score.
  2. The cutoff demand at XLRI Jamshedpur is usually on the higher side i.e over 95 percentile.
  3. The XAT cutoff for SPJIMR, XIM and IMT are usually at par with each other.
  4. Over 150 business schools besides the XLRIs accept XAT score for admission to their business studies programmes.
  5. Clearing the XAT cat off does not imply that the student has been offered admission at the said business school or programme. They have still clear the next rounds of the selection process, namely, GD, PI and WAT, whichever applicable.
  6. Some institutes would have also have XAT sectional cutoff requirement besides the overall cutoff. Also, in terms of a tie, the sectional cut offs are taken into consideration.
  7. The XAT cutoff for XLRI is declared for males and females separately.
  8. The XAT cut off is based on the percentile score of the candidates.

XAT Cutoff: Factors determining cut off

The XAT cutoff is not  determined by the raw score of the student alone. Their are various factors which play a role in determining the cutoff of the particular year. Some of the elements are explained below:

  • Difficulty level of the the XAT
  • Number of test takers
  • Number of candidates who have qualified for the examination
  • Number of seats in the management programme or business school
  • The position of the business school. Top tier business schools usually have higher cutoff demand
  • Programme for which the test taker applies. Programmes with high demand usually have high XAT cutoffs.

XAT cutoff: How to check

Candidates can check the cutoff of XAT in the official website of XLRI. The institute will declare the cutoff for all students who appeared for the test. To check their XAT cutoff, candidates have to enter their roll number and application number. Candidates are advised to take a printout of the cutoff list for future reference.

XAT result:

The result of XAT is expected to be released by the fourth week of January, 2019. The exam is scheduled on January 6. The result is expected to be declared in the form of a scorecard. The score card would include both the overall and sectional percentile scores of XAT. Candidates can use their XAT exam id and date of birth to access their XAT result. They also have to enter the security code. Candidates can also get a hard copy of the scorecard by way of post. The XAT result includes the overall percentage, overall percentile, Percentage and percentile of all the four sections-  Decision Making, Verbal and Logical Ability, Data interpretation and Quantitative Ability.

What after XAT cut off is released: Selection process

As mentioned above, scoring above the XAT cutoff does not ensure admission at any XAT accepting business school. However, candidates who clear the institute specific XAT cutoff are called for further rounds of the selection process. Each institute has its own selection process usually including Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Essay Writing. The selection process starts from the second week of February to the second week of March. The final selection of candidates is made by bringing all the factors together- XAT percentile, performance in GD, PI Essay and academic and professional experience, if any. Usually, candidates are informed of their admission via mail or the same is released by the institutes on their websites.
