IIM Calcutta Executive MBA: PGPEX (Post Graduate Programme for Executives) is IIM Calcutta’s One-Year Full-Time residential programme meant for Executives with more than five years of professional experience. IIM Calcutta is the first management institute in the country with triple accreditation by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. Only 5 other business schools in Asia and less than 100 business schools around the world are currently ‘Triple Accredited’.

The IIM Calcutta Executive MBA programme is aimed at training executives in their mid-career on advanced management skills for senior and top management roles in the industry. The programme was launched in 2006. The diversified nature of class of the executive MBA at the campus also helps executives to interact and broaden their horizon of management thinking.

The pedagogy of IIM Calcutta Executive MBA programme is designed in a way that it focuses equally on class room learning and also learning beyond class room. The students are exposed to practical experience of unraveling real life business puzzles, informal discussions on varied topics. The immersion programme helps future business leaders hone their skills while tackling real world challenges. The executive MBA participants are made to participate in business case competitions, branding exercises and self-interest career advancement clubs.

IIM Calcutta Executive MBA Eligibility

  • A bachelor’s degree (minimum 10+2+3 years of formal education) or equivalent in any discipline
  • At least 5 years of full time post qualification managerial/professional experience as on March 31 of the admission year.
  • Valid GMAT Score (taken within last 36 months of application date).

IIM Calcutta Executive MBA fees

The fee for Executive MBA programme at IIM Calcutta is around Rs 22 lakh plus tax as applicable, payable in four installments. This fee structure is for academic year 2019-20, as per the officials of PGPEX programmes and may vary next admission year onwards.

For 2019 admission year the fee submission deadline for all the four installments below:

a) By 24th December, 2018 (or last date of acceptance) : Rs.4,00,000/- (1st instalment) plus tax as applicable

b) By 17th and 18th April, 2019 (or date of registration) : Rs.5,00,00 (2nd instalment) plus tax as applicable

c) By 25th July, 2019 : Rs.7,00,000 (3rd instalment) plus tax as applicable

d) By 28th November, 2019 : Rs.6,00,000 (4th instalment) plus tax as applicable

Furthermore, an amount of Rs.20,000 has to be paid as refundable caution deposit at the time of registration. Also, students provided with family accommodation need to pay an extra Rs 48,000 plus tax as applicable.

What does programme fee include?:  According to IIM Calcutta officials, the programme fee includes tuition fees, cost of study material, accommodation and cost of study tours organised by IIMC. Further, Airfare, visa and medical insurance charges for overseas study tours will be borne by the Institute. However, students will have to bear the expenses for food, personal travel, electricity, cable TV, other utility and misc., expenses and any other expenses of personal nature during their stay in the campus or abroad.

The Institute does not use any pre-determined GMAT score. An overall assessment is made on the basis of all these factors for selecting candidates for admission.

IIM Calcutta Executive MBA – Additional Programmes

PGPEX-VLM is meant for techno-managerial leaders. With latest management skills and cutting-edge technology knowledge, the one-year full-time residential program has a built in manufacturing focus. The course is being conducted jointly by 3 premier institutes of India IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras. The course has been designed by these institutes in consultation with industry, Confederation of India Industry (CII), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and various ministries of government of India.

The program fees (for academic year 2019) was Rs. 11,25,000 plus applicable taxes.

The programme was developed by the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council in collaboration with Ministry of HRD, IITs, IIMs and CII as a flagship program to develop Leaders in Manufacturing under the Indo-Japan Cooperation Agreement in December 2006. The Government of Japan also extends cooperation to facilitate transfer of Japanese expertise and encourage visits to manufacturing centres of excellence in Japan so as to expose the budding leaders to the pioneers of manufacturing technology, adding a global perspective to the entire effort.  Since 2007, the program has crafted an array of visionary leaders who have marked their presence in industry, upholding the broad principles of the VLM community.

Unique Features of the program:

  • One year full time residential program
  • Joint Program of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in which each partnering institute teach their speciality in management education.

  • Selection process involves short listing applicants on the basis of GMAT score, bio-data and essays, a management aptitude test and an interview conducted by the faculty members of 3 institutes and key industry experts.

The programme is made of 36 weeks of classroom study, which includes lectures, case studies, tutorials, lab sessions, videos, individual and team assignments, guest lecture from Japanese faculty, industry experts and business leaders, totaling to 1057 interaction hours.

Q: What all documents are to be sent along with the application form?

A: The check list of documents to be sent is as follows:

  1. a) Duly filled-in application form
  2. b) Application fee paid by demand draft / banker’s cheque
  3. c) GMAT score card
  4. d) Proof of proficiency in English, if applicable
  5. e) Self attested scanned copies of original certificates and mark sheets / transcripts of examinations passed / degrees obtained.

Q: What will be the total number of seats available for the PGPEX 13th batch (2019-20)

A: The total number of seats available will be 70 approximately.

Q: What is the minimum GMAT score required for application?

A: There is no minimum GMAT score required for application. Participants are selected through a rigorous selection process based on their relative ranking comprising of GMAT score, academic background, professional experience, personal interview, statement of purpose and recommendation letters from two referees.

Q: Whether loan facility is available for funding the course expenditure?

A: Educational loans are available from banks. For example, SBI Scholar Loan from State Bank of India against some criteria as applicable at the time during application for loan.

Q: Is placement assistance given after completion of the course?

A: Placement assistance is provided to all participants except those candidates who are sponsored by companies. The Institute however does not guarantee placement to the candidates.

Q: Does the course provide specialization in a functional discipline like Finance, Marketing, Systems, Operation etc?

A: PGPEX is a general management programme. As a part of the programme, the participants can take 15 elective courses during the 4th, 5th and 6th terms from the total number of electives offered. This covers all major functional disciplines.

Q: Is PGPEX programme equivalent to 2-year PGP?

A: PGPEX is a One-year full-time residential programme leading to “Post-graduate Diploma in Management for Executives” and is different from our 2-year Post-graduate Programme.

Q: Statement of Purpose (SOP): What exactly it should carry?

A: The SOP should include an objective and clear statement on why does a candidate want to join the PGPEX programme; what qualities, experience and achievements the candidate has to justify your admission, etc.

Q: If a candidate is selected this year and unable to join, can he/she join in the next batch?

A: Yes. IIM Calcutta has a deferred admission policy in PGPEX, subject to rules and the approval of the PGPEX committee.

Q: Is CAT scores accepted instead of GMAT score for PGPEX admission at IIM Calcutta?

A: No, CAT scores are not considered for PGPEX programme. Only GMAT scores are applicable.
